Heart is Beating EP

The 3rd Estate is a hip hop / jazz collective founded by our very own 3Digits. Upcoming UK MCs CANMKING & Chriz Gabriel share microphone duties with UK legend Ty who sadly passed away last year. MC verses are backed by live tracked instrumentals featuring some top UK Jazz talent. Though only their debut release the band have already created a buzz on the live circuit opening for Homeboy Sandman & Edan at the Jazz Cafe and playing blistering sets at their CLF Art Lounge residency.

Their debut single “Heart is Beating” is an uplifting & enriching track created collaboratively in a way that allows for interplay between all of the creative voices involved. Cut to tape with no click track and written with room for interpretation and improvisation, the single captures some of the wild energy and passion that the band have been delivering live. The single is a love letter to the music we love and dedication to the craft, a fitting tribute to our brothers Ty & Toby Seed who kept their hearts front and centre in all the music they created. RIP.

Native Dancer

"New troubadours of psychedelicsoul" Stamp the Wax

Our debut activity as a record label was to partner with one of our favourite bands Native Dancer and issue their EPs Vol I & II on gatefold vinyl. Eric Lau offered a remix of Big Blue with Slugabed contributing an exclusive digital remix of ‘In Clouds’.

Alex Klein

DJ/Producer

London based DJ/Producer Alex Klein is a founding member of the Submit family and also runs the Octagon Music Studio in South London and it’s sister label Dream Diary.

His debut EP ‘First Relic’ for Submit takes inspiration from ancient archaeology, especially sites around the world that seem to show advanced stonework beyond what was believed capable at the time. Parallels of this can be heard among the compositions, with shamanic vocal chops that counter skippy, resonant synthesis.

Underpinning the release is an abundance of analogue percussion (jammed live and on the fly) giving a hint of his impressive ability as a live performer. The record is pristinely mixed-down and demonstrates a breadth of technical ability many years in the making.

Lawrence Hart

DJ/Producer

Lawrence Hart is a fast rising talent in the electronic world, collaborating with George Fitzgerald, signing to Scuba’s Hotflush label and releasing the excellent Little Cub debut on Domino Records. Data Transmission on his “First Relic” remix – ‘Emphatic, if not joyous, the track features textures that give way to some energizing drops throughout, all in all enabling the piece to soar towards “Bangar” status.’

Throwing Snow

Houndstooth signed Throwing Snow is a longstanding SUBMIT favourite. Ross Tones’ music ranges from the steely cold club constructions of his Throwing Snow alias to his more ethereal work with Snow Ghosts. He delivers a delicious reworking of the sub aquatic arp that runs throughout Alex Klein’s ‘Temple of Resonance’ for the ‘First Relic’ EP. A pleasure to get to work with him on our label journey!

Eric Lau

DJ/Producer

Eric Lau is an immeasurably talented producer who has worked with the likes of Kaidi Tatham, Oddisee, Yussef Kamaal, Guilty Simpson, Dego, Tawiah, Rahel and Fatima in his prolific career as an artist. Luckily for us Eric is a huge Native Dancer fan and turned in a stunningly slinky remix of their track ‘Big Blue’.

Slugabed

Slugabed is a very tall man who makes lots of the really good music. Releasing on all the best labels including Ninja Tunes, Anticon & his own imprint Activia Benz. We asked him to twist Native Dancer’s ‘In Clouds’ into a something new and he didn’t disappoint. If you ever wondered what odd-time deconstructed trap-jazz sounded like then wonder no longer.

Submit was launched in 2012 to create a platform for underground and up-and-coming music. Founders Dan & Alex aimed to build a welcoming space for independent artists, and after promoting hundreds of carefully curated events, club nights & festivals the brand has evolved into an independent record label. Our passion is to showcase brilliant new music & artists and help nurture new talent. Daniel ‘3Digits’ Berry’s studio in Manchester has been designed as a writing & recording hub. The space is set up for a frictionless creative work flow and features an array of Synths, Saxophones and a vintage English Rogers drum kit. Everything in the room is routed through an SSL SiX desk making use of it’s world renowned super analog preamps, G series bus comp & SSL EQ.
